Open Sesame: Give preference to automatic and low-effort doors
Automatic doors provide an easy way for many kinds of users to enter a building with less effort, including people carrying boxes or using trolleys, people using mobility equipment or prams.
This sliding door is so light that it can be opened with just your elbow. It could be beneficial to indicate that it is a sliding door, as this may not be intuitive for all users.
This entrance door includes a push button, which is large and easy to operate. Where automated sliding doors are not possible, push button doors are a viable alternative as they can be triggered by most users and require less effort than a conventional door.
If using a push button, consider the positioning of the users, and make sure that the door is able to open safely. Fully outlining the glass doors will improve their visibility for people with low vision.
